The bursary programme targets unemployed students who wish to complete their tertiary qualifications but need financial assistance. In order to qualify for the CSIR bursary your qualification must be deemed priority by CSIR.

Young and academically qualifying people are encouraged to apply so as to increase participation of women and black people in science, engineering and technology.

Undergraduate

  • Data Science studies
  • Electronic Engineering studies

Undergraduate students must meet the following criteria:

  • South African citizen
  • Must intend to enrol full-time for the degree of choice at a South African public university
  • English (Level 5)
  • Mathematics (Level 6)
  • Physical Science (Level 6)

Honours Studies

  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechatronic Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Honours students who wish to be funded must meet the following criteria:

  • South African citizen

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR CSIR BURSARY

Students seeking funding from CSIR in order to pursue Masters and Doctoral studies must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Good scientific writing skills;
  • Good organisational and time management skills;
  • Excellent academic record;
  • A drive to conduct research, self-motivation and the ability to work independently and within a team are essential;
  • The ability to formulate and carry out research;
  • Excellent technical abilities;
  • The ability to work well under pressure as part of a team and meet scheduled deliverables; Good communication skills both verbal and writing (e.g. with evidence of report and/or conference papers writing); and
  • Good report writing abilities.
